What's next, Belles?

Not all girls are made of sugar and spice and everything nice.
Some girls are made of adventure, fine beer (and wine), brains and no fear." --Unknown

Dear Mountain Belles Members,

As 2020 comes to an end, your volunteer board has decided it is in the best interest of the Mountain Belles to restructure the organization. For transparency, we want our members to know we are in the process of dissolving as a non-profit organization. While the previous board began the process of obtaining non-profit status with the best of intentions, trying to pursue and maintain this has cost us time and money.  Non-profit status does not support or benefit a small social group such as Mountain Belles. As volunteers, the process of maintaining the non-profit paperwork, tax obligations, and personal liability is beyond the scope of board members and Mountain Belles’ financial capabilities.

We are investigating the best alternative for the group and will let members know as soon as we have found what works best. IF YOU HAVE EXPERTISE IN THIS AREA (NON-PROFITS, LIABILITY, TAXES) AND CAN SPEND TIME HELPING US RESOLVE THESE ISSUES OR HAVE ANY IDEAS ABOUT WHAT STRUCTURE WOULD BEST BENEFIT OUR ORGANIZATION FOR LIABILITY AND TAX IMPLICATIONS, PLEASE EMAIL US AT
MTNBELLES406@GMAIL.COM  by December 12. We could use your help! Paperwork for this process must be filed before year’s end.

We ask that members please hold off on submitting 2021 dues. Any dues already paid for the 2021 year will be returned. All other monies in our account, currently totaling $1,631.83, will be held for now in order to pay for the non-profit group dissolution and any cost and taxes the Mountain Belles organization may incur in the coming months as we work through this process. If there is any money left after dissolution and taxes are paid, it is our understanding that as a former non-profit, all funds must be donated to a similar non-profit organization. At that time, we will poll members on which organization they would like to donate monies to once we know how much, if any, is in the account at the end of this process.
In the meantime, unofficial events can be posted by any members of the Facebook page that would like to host or organize an outing. We will not be posting official Mountain Belles events to the website or facebook page.
Thank you for your understanding,

The Mountain Belles Board

ALSO, our members host many "informal" events, posted on our page on Facebook.
Anyone can join and post!  Some examples we've had are:

"Anyone up for Indian food?  Let's go Wednesday night!"
"Let's go snowshoeing and soak in the Boiling River this Saturday!  Who's in?"
"I'm hiking the M trail after work.  Who wants to join me?"
"Dog Park tomorrow morning.  Who's interested?

Have an idea? Throw it out there!
